I thought that was a catchy title, but it is a little misleading. It should be “I like taking pictures of birds”.
I didn’t know anything about photography before our trip started. However, I thought it would be a good idea to get a decent camera and learn how to use it. I got an entry level DSLR and took a short online class. I practiced a bit in the parks near our place in Brooklyn and rather enjoyed it. Photography is my new hobby and while I have learned a lot over the past year, I still know very little about it. I started writing a post for the blog about the evolution of my photography, but quickly realized that it was incredibly boring. Instead, here is the gist of what I wanted to say in a lot fewer words.
- At first, I took pictures of everything, then realized that they were boring. Now I am picky about what I take pictures of. Many of the pictures I used to take were to simply document the trip, now I take pictures often for their own sake.
- It takes time to set up a good shot. Thank you Jesslyn for your patience with me.
- I am super cool because I now shoot in RAW and use back button focusing.
- I delete half of the pictures I take. A quarter we keep, but don’t share, and a quarter are made public on our photo page.
- The public photos on our website are a combination of ones taken by me mostly on the DSLR and by Jesslyn mostly on her iPhone. There are ones that I choose to put on there and ones Jesslyn chooses. The ones you don't like, are most likely chosen by Jesslyn (joking ;) ).
- I could be a better photographer if only I had the right gear. However, the gear is incredibly expensive.
- My favorite subjects are animals. Sometimes Jesslyn gets jealous.
- I like to zoom in as much as possible and fill the frame with an animal’s face, you’ll notice that trend.
- Most of the animals we see are birds, hence the title of this post.
